School Introduction

Eurocollege Institute of Education School of Healthcare Studies, which is based in Dublin, Ireland, offers study courses in English for Medical Purposes (EMP) and Nursing English which are designed to prepare international healthcare professionals, but particularly qualified nurses and medical doctors, for employment positions in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

The University of Dublin Trinity College ( School of Nursing & Midwifery) have provided significant academic consultancy and training support services to Eurocollege in the development of our world class “Nursing English” study programme (see www.tcd.ie) and the clinical skills module of our Nursing English study course is delivered in the clinical training laboratory at that university.

Eurocollege EMP study courses offered vary in length from 2 week intensive courses to 48 weeks. Full-time courses normally involve between 15 to 25 hours study per week.

ESL Program Introduction

A typical Eurocollege EMP study programme is made up of five main elements.
The first element consists of general communication and healthcare communication skills. The second element consists of General English language training aimed at preparing nurses for the world recognised IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination. The third and most important element consists of specialist training in Medical English language. The Eurocollege Medical English courses uses as their basis some of the best known and recognised Medical Theory Training systems in the world. The fourth element is a Clinical Training component which is provided by Eurocollege Clinical Training tutors and is based in the Clinical Training Laboratory in the University of Dublin – Trinity College Healthcare Faculty building. The fifth and final element is a Cultural Training component.
