Study at Flinders University Australia

Flinders is everything a modern university should be and we think you'll find it an exciting and progressive place to study. Respected for excellence in both teaching and research, it remains friendly and accessible and at times proudly unconventional. Combining traditional values with a flair for innovation, we offer courses that reflect the needs of today's students, whether their interests are in the arts, the sciences or business. At the same time, the amount we spend on research and experimental development is consistently among the highest in Australia on a per capita basis.

We expect all our courses to be relevant to modern society and to the needs of those being taught, whatever their background. And we believe teaching and research should go hand in hand, which means our students work with academic staff members who are leaders in their fields.

Excellence in teaching

Teaching is given the highest priority, and a good staff-student ratio allows regular direct contact with academic staff. All teaching is assessed by students as part of our commitment to ensuring the quality of our activities.

Flinders offers nearly 50 undergraduate Bachelor degrees, as well as other programs that can be taken as specialisations within these degrees. Postgraduate courses through to doctoral level are offered in all disciplines. [See Areas of study for more information.]

A convenient location ...

Flinders is situated just south of Adelaide's city centre in a safe, suburban location. Regular bus services run to the CBD, the nearby beaches and the Marion Shopping Centre the largest shopping mall in the southern hemisphere. Security guards are on duty 24 hours a day and an after-hours escort service is available.

We have just one campus, so there is no need to travel across the city to attend lectures, and it is possible to live on the university grounds in either collegiate-style or self-contained accommodation.

... and a beautiful campus

The180-hectare campus is one of Australia's most beautiful, offering panoramic views of Adelaide's city, beaches and suburbs. Modern buildings and facilities are set in spacious grounds of natural bushland, a pine forest, formal gardens, a tree-fringed lake and sweeping lawns.

The campus is like a mini city, with shops, a post office, bank, pharmacy, hairdresser, book store, travel agent, laundromat, music listening room, religious centre, and Muslim prayer rooms, as well as traditional student services such as refectories and a sports centre. The refectories have just been remodelled to create an exciting cafe-style environment.

Diversity and cultural awareness

Flinders has a student population in excess of 12500, including about 1200 international students from more than 50 countries. More than 40% of our students are studying part time or externally, and a third are aged over 30.

We are a truly multicultural university, which actively promotes and celebrates cultural diversity. An on-campus Religious Centre incorporates Muslim prayer rooms.

International links

Interaction with overseas universities is encouraged at Flinders. We have ties with universities, colleges and research institutions around the world to provide opportunities for student and staff exchanges, as well as joint research and teaching programs.

We have formal links with some of the world's best universities, and recently became one of the founding members of the International Network of Universities, which brings together universities in Asia and Europe.

Courses taught at Flinders

There are two ways to find out about the range of courses taught by Flinders on campus in Adelaide. You can go to our Areas of study section, which provides an overview of all the options within each key area of study, or you can go directly to the separate alphabetical listings of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Fee information for all courses is provided in a separate schedule.

The undergraduate section includes degrees and diplomas, as well as major sequences that can be taken within these degrees. For each course the Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) required for admission at the most recent intake is provided. For information about other results please contact the International Office.

The postgraduate courses section highlights fields of study; thus some headings link to individual courses or streams, while others provide information on, and links to, a range of courses and programs. Research higher degree options are listed separately.

There is separate information about our Study Abroad Program and a new four-week Bridging the Gap Program.

Note: Australian qualifications are recognised in most countries, but students are advised to discuss their proposed programs with the professional registration authority and relevant professional associations in their home country before commencing studies.
