There is a Kindergarten to Year 6 campus in BLACKBOY WAY bEECHBORO and a Kindergarten to Year 12 campus in BOYARE AVENUE mIRRABOOKA. There are approximately 1 students in the primary years of schooling (500 on each campus) and 1 in the middle and senior secondary years of schooling. A Christian School in the Anglican Tradition John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School is a school of the Anglican Schools Commission. The Commission is charged with the establishment of Anglican schools made accessible to local communities through an affordable fee structure. Christian faith and the nurturing of the human spirit are at the core of an education at JSRACS. The success of the school lies with students parents and staff having a clear understanding of the School's values and practices that make those values as tangible as the bricks and mortar that make up the buildings. We have a strong focus on pastoral care and believe that if we take good care of this aspect of the curriculum then almost everything else flows from this. Campus Facilities The facilities and grounds on both the Beechboro and Mirrabooka campuses are of an exceptionally high standard. The gardens and buildings are well maintained and attractive and the school provides a sophisticated technological environment. We have a reliable wireless system throughout the school and all classrooms are equipped with SmartBoard technology. Departments have access to class sets of laptop computers and more are available for occasional use from the library. The Beechboro Campus caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6; it provides well equipped classrooms anew gymnasium specialist music suite large science room art room two playing fields and several hard courts. The Mirrabooka Campus caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 in a carefully structured learning environment. The Primary has its own science and art facilities an oval and playgrounds and a gymnasium was completed in 2010. The ground floor level of the Library is for the use of Primary classes although they have access to the whole collection. Many of the classrooms have been recently built and feature large break-out spaces where students can gather to work creatively and energetically!The Middle Years of Schooling boasts a six classroom Year 7 suite and a Years 8 and 9 Learning Community building. These buildings cater specifically to the needs of young adolescents and complement the facilities of the whole secondary school that include a Performing Arts Centre with a 200 seat theatre dance studio and specialist music classrooms; a gymnasium with two indoor courts weight centre and climbing wall; four hard courts and two ovals; a media centre commercial kitchens in the Food and Technology Centre; an Industrial Arts Centre equipped with CAD computers; and a bright and spacious two storey library. Co-curricular Programmes Under the guidance of encouraging staff students can choose to compete in a wide range of interschool sporting competitions including Australian Rules Football soccer basketball netball baseball Hockey badminton cricket volleyball athletics and Swimming. We compete in A Division in ACC Athletics and in C Division in ACC Swimming. DOWNLOAD THE ARTS CALENDAR above right to get some idea of the thriving Arts scene at JSRACS. Music dance and Drama provide co-curricular opportunities for hundreds of students; every year we produce a fully staged musical; over 600 students play in bands and ensembles or sing in choirs; the annual Choreography Night plays to packed houses for four nights. Those who hanker after distant places may head off to Bali cambodia or the Northern Territory. The LOTE Department offers frequent opportunities for language students to travel to either Indonesia or Italy as well as involving JSR students in the exchange student programme by hosting dozens of overseas students. The co-curricular programme also contains a community service element which encourages compassion and civic responsibility in our students. Year 11 and 12 students may participate in the Youngblood Youth Donor Programme run by the Australian Red Cross others may have their head shaved for Me No Hair Day or fast for the Forty Hour Famine. Our students collect food for Anglicare shake collection tins for Daffodil Day buy red paraphernalia on Red Nose Day and support two children through World Vision. The children at JSRACS have been hugely successful in raising money for overseas projects. Through the annual "I Give" programme they raised close to $32 last year for projects in under developed countries and cancer research. Caring for others does not stop at the school gates. Special Music Programmes THE CHORISTER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME established in 2008 provides the opportunity for students to gain a specialised education in choral singing. Choristers gain world-class musical skills similar to those in musical establishments within the Anglican tradition which enhance their broader education. The Chapel Choir Programme provides JSRACS and the wider community with a distinguished choir that will enhance Anglican worship continue the musical traditions of the Anglican Church and develop the culture of choral singing. The Chapel Choir is affiliated with the RSCM. After an audition process students are selected to participate in the programme based on: • Vocal and musical ability• Academic suitability• Willingness of family to support the child’s involvement. Students in the Chapel Choir Programme form a class of 18 students consisting of three boys and three girls from Year 4 Year 5 and Year 6. All lessons ACTivities and resources are provided by the school. There is no cost to families when a student is enrolled in this programme. Students who receive a choral scholarship remain fully involved in the programme until the end of Year 6. There is a strong expectation that students will continue singing in the Chapel Choir until the end of Year 12. THE YEAR 2 STRING PROGRAMME provides each student in Year 2 with a size appropriate violin viola or cello and they participate in weekly group lessons with specialist Music teachers. THE YEAR 5 BAND PROGRAMME provides each student in Year 5 with an instrument such as a saxophone trumpet clarinet or flute and they participate in weekly group lessons with specialist Music teachers. Each of the Year 5 classes forms a complete concert band and the end of year concert is a joy to behold! This is an opportunity for personal reflection and contemplation whilst being transported by ethereal choral music performed by the St Paul’s Chapel and Secondary Choirs. 16 april: The Comedy of Errors Williams Shakespeare’s farcical and comical play is a joyful piece of theatre with humour coming from confusion discomfort and mistaken identity. All the characters are driven to distraction by the identities of utterly indistinguishable twins Sunday 19 May: Spiritus or Messe Spiritus/Messe follows the Christian season meditating on the feast of Pentecost which falls on this day. The St Paul’s Chapel Choir performance will follow the structure of the Mass with the men from the choir singing the Gregorian chants of the day and the choir singing two motets referencing the Holy Spirit. Thursday 13 June: Baroquest The stunning piece of Baroque music membra Jseu Nostri WAs the very first Lutheran Cantata and translates to “The limbs of our Jesus”. The Secondary Choir will perform this wonderful piece with contributions from the Organ Scholars and Septissimo Strings. 18 June: Dance Night The JSRACS Dance students both Primary and Secondary showcase the work they have completed during semester one. Wednesday 7 August: Instrumental Concert This concert features the Senior Concert Band wind Band septimus Swing senior Jazz Band jSR Sinfonia and a variety of smaller ensembles all showcasing the combined energies of our musicians. 4 september: Dare to Dance (Choreography Night) A wonderfully entertaining night showcasing many styles of dance including Jazz Hip Hop and Contemporary. Thursday 5 September: St Nicolas Concert (St Nicolas benjamin Britten) Celebrating Britten’s 100th birthday this epic work for Choir orchestra and Soloists will see JSRACS students joined by students from St Marks Anglican Community School and supported by special guests to present this masterful Cantanta in the inspiring setting of Winthrop Hall. 4 to 6 November: Art and Design Exhibition The annual Art and Design Exhibition is a showcase for JSRACS students from Years 1 to 12 and gives a wonderful snapshot of the talent of our students. It is a truly inspiring event not to be missed. Sunday 1 December: Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols Beginning with Advent and then moving through the Christmas story each reading will be followed by a carol sung by one of the JSRACS Choirs. Much loved carols are interspersed throughout the service for the congregation to participate in.
