Eligibility
To be eligible for entry to the University of Ballarat, applicants must meet the University of Ballarat general academic admission requirements (specific subject prerequisites for particular courses) and demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
Academic Entry Requirements
Entry requirements vary from course to course, but generally require completion of a first degree from a recognised university with specified minimum grades (or marks) in relevant subjects. A period of work experience, following graduation, may also be required for some professional courses. English Language Proficiency
In addition, for all courses, students must have obtained the following minimum level of English language proficiency to be admitted.
Postgraduate (Coursework)
IELTS
A Band Score of 6. 0, with no sub-scores less than 5. 5.
TOEFL
A score of 550, including the Test of Written English (TWE),
or a score of 213 in the Computer based Test, and the essay rating.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
To be eligible for an Australian student visa, all prospective international students are required to apply for and be accepted into a registered course, or part of a registered course, by a registered Australian education provider. The University of Ballarat is a registered provider under Australian Government legislation (Registered Provider Number: 00103D).
Prospective students should complete the relevant International Student Application Form in this Handbook, attach the required documents and return the form to the Universitys International Student Programs office. There are no closing dates, however, students are advised to seek information on visa application time frames from the Australian Consulate in their home country. Accommodation and Living Costs
The University of Ballarat understands the importance of finding appropriate accommodation for its international students and offers a variety of options to choose from. The Accommodation Services Office manages and supports students with their accommodation, as well as their living, learning and social environments. Emphasis is placed on creating a friendly, caring, living and study environment that helps new residents adapt as quickly as possible to being away from home. It encourages them to make new friends, and to maximise their study capabilities. Residents are also encouraged to treat the Residence as if it were their home. To that end they are invited to play an active part in improving the services provided and planning the various social, sporting and cultural activities that are organised during the year. A wide range of housing options are available and include; on-campus residences,
off-campus University houses and hostels, private rental (houses and apartments) as well as home stay (with an Australian family). Temporary housing, if required, is guaranteed for all international students prior to their arrival.
Offer Process
Successful applicants will receive an official letter of offer from the Universitys International Admissions Officer specifying the details of the course or courses, the required fees, the terms and conditions of enrolment and other relevant information. The offer must be accepted in writing and one semesters course fee, and compulsory medical insurance, must be paid at the time of acceptance
in order to secure a place in the course. After acceptance of the offer and payment of fees, the University will send each confirmed student a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) form, in order for the student to apply to the Australian diplomatic post for a student visa to come to Australia.
