About Meriden

Established in 1897 meriden has a tradition of inspiring and nurturing students to achieve their very best. Meriden is a medium-sized Anglican day school for girls from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. The Pre-Kindergarten is also open to boys. At Meriden every girl is known and valued. Each student is treated with respect and individuality is celebrated. Location

Meriden’s central location in Strathfield attracts students from as far afield as the Blue Mountains st George and Sutherland Shire Hills District northern Districts central Coast and overseas. Strathfield is well-serviced by public transport - it is a major interchange on the rail network - and the school is located only a few minutes walk from the train station and bus stops. The school operates a private bus service for students to and from Concord five Dock and Drummoyne.

Junior School (PK- Year 6)

Meriden’s Junior School aims to develop skilled confident young women who enjoy learning care about others and increasingly take responsibility for their own actions. A broad and rich educational program is offered. It focuses on the total growth of the developing girl encompassing social physical emotional and cultural needs in addition to providing a rigorous academic programMeriden commenced implementation of the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme in 2008. This program complements Meriden’s approach to teaching and learning; it is designed to foster the development of the whole child equipping students with skills for life-long learning.

Senior School (Years 7-12)

The supportive and enriching environment of Meriden’s Senior School promotes involvement empowerment discovery and independence. Girls are encouraged to become independent thinkers take responsibility for their actions and for their learning and to develop emotional resilience. Meriden’s philosophy puts strong emphasis on finding individual pathways of learning for each girl. The curriculum is rich and diverse and is designed to give each girl the opportunity to discover and nurture her individual skills and talents. Meriden has a number of successful programs in place to support students during important stages in their education. The Step Up to year 7 program helps girls negotiate the transition from Junior to Senior School and ensures they are supported and challenged during this crucial developmental stage. The Passport to Senior Studies program aims to prepare girls well for the demands of Years 11 and 12 and encourages them to think ahead about their life after school. The Olympus and Amadeus programs cater for the special needs the school’s elite athletes and music students.

Beyond the Classroom

At Meriden everyone has the opportunity to discover new pursuits to be part of a team and to make new friends. An extensive co-curricular program means that there is an activity to suit every interest and ability. Through these activities girls learn life skills such as co-operation resilience negotiation techniques and managing responsibility. Opportunities are available in a wide range of activities in music performing arts sports debating and special interest groups. Music has a long tradition of excellence at Meriden and forms an essential part of each student’s education. The school has a thriving music Department which aims to foster a love of music in every student and develop the skills of talented young musicians. The school has an outstanding record of sporting achievement and all students have the opportunity to participate in sports of their choice with some students participating at state national and international level.
