Profile

Jerudong International School (JIS) founded in 1997 is in the small, beautiful country of Brunei Darussalam, on the island of Borneo. It is a large, thriving school with over 1700 students offering a broad, liberal education in the best traditions of western independent schools. It is one of the leading British international schools in South East Asia preparing students for I/GCSEs, A levels and since August 2011, the IB Diploma. JIS has almost 200 highly qualified teachers primarily from the UK but also from Australia, New Zealand, France and Brunei. We pride ourselves on providing an education that is not only academically challenging but also seeks to develop the whole student.

The facilities at JIS are exceptional. The purpose-built, ICT networked school occupies over 300 acres on a single campus in Jerudong, near the coast "“ a short drive from the capital city. Students are able to use the Arts Centre (containing a 725 seat auditorium, dance studios, smaller theatres and rehearsal rooms), science laboratories, extensive music faculty (including recording studio), art, design and technology and textile studios, libraries and traditional classrooms as well as the swimming pool, gymnasium, netball/basketball  courts, tennis courts and soccer/rugby pitches. The Boarding facilities for students aged 11 years and above are purpose designed and built for the community of 280 students. Boarders are also able to use the school facilities.

All students and teachers in the School are members of a House which provides a key role in providing opportunities for internal sports competition and other House Events (eg Debating, Dance and Music). The Houses play a vital role in establishing the spirit of the School. A strong extracurricular  programme exists with over 100 activities on offer each term including a wide range of sports and arts activities, the International Award, Model United Nations, environmental groups and "œMake A Difference" community programme.
