International School of Beijing International School
of Beijing (ISB) is an English-language day school offering
international curriculum, pre-kindergarten(3/4 years) to grade 12, for
expatriate children in Beijing, China. ISB has its roots as a diplomatic
school founded by the embassies of the United States, Canada, Britain,
Australia, and New Zealand. In 2002 the school ceased to be a diplomatic
entity and became an independent school for foreign children under the
auspices of the Beijing Municipal Government. A Board of Directors
elected from the school's parent association oversees the school.
The International School of Beijing (ISB)'s new multi-million
dollar facility is located in Shunyi District, near residential
complexes in the northeast of Beijing. In addition to basic core
subjects, students are given instruction in art, music, drama, computer,
library, and physical education, Chinese, Spanish and French. The
International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma is offered to student in grades
11 and 12 along with several Advanced Placement (AP) courses. All
students study about China within the regular subject areas and through
special cultural activities and field trip experiences. Program support
for ESOL is provided and integrated into the curriculum. Resource
support is also available for those students with mild learning needs.
The International School of Beijing (ISB) offers a full and varied
after-school activity program throughout the year in four different
sessions. The school year begins in August and ends in June. The school
day is from 08: 20-15: 20. The facility includes state-of-the-art
technology facilities, four gymnasiums, a 25-meter indoor swimming pool,
600-seat theatre, and stadium with track and field, two softball fields,
two soccer fields, six tennis courts, 142 classrooms, and laboratories,
and a full service kitchen with two dining rooms. The 50,000 square
meter building is located on landscaped 132,000 square meter parcel of
land (33 acres) 30 kilometers from city center. Interested parents are
advised to submit applications as early as possible, as enrolment is
sometimes limited at certain grade levels.
