Learning Support Programme

The Modern English School, Cairo, established in 1990 as a co-educational day school, fosters an international outlook and caters for children of all nationalities.

The nursery takes children from age three. In the primary department a full academic programme is followed based on the National Curriculum of England with slight modification to reflect the international setting.

In years 7 and 8 the curriculum is designed to provide a balanced education in academic and creative subjects, leading to an accelerated programme, in the British Section, or the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, in the American Section. The IGCSE is available as a full two-year programme, whereby students sit for all eight subjects at the end of Year ten.

In Grades 11 and 12, the choice is either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or the British A/S and A2 Cambridge board examinations or the American High School Diploma with SAT II and Advanced Placement courses.

A Learning Development Unit caters for pupils which require academic assistance. Specialist PE, music, IT and French teachers coach the children throughout the whole age range. The school is located on an imaginatively designed 33,500 m campus with large faculty suites, three multi-purpose halls, a large tiered theatre, primary science laboratories, computer suites, split level learning media centres, rehearsal rooms, large gymnasium, two swimming pools, varsity size sports pitch and running track.

Extra curricular activities play a significant part in the life of the school. There is an emphasis on performing arts with large scale musical and drama productions being presented regularly. Inter-house and inter-school sporting matches are enjoyed and school teams travel abroad competing successfully in ISAC activities. Pupils are encouraged to become involved in local community work with several charity events being organized annually. Educational visits linked with the curriculum are enjoyed and regular Parent-Teacher Curricular Information Evenings are presented. Transport is available to all areas of Cairo.
