Learning Support Programme
Dresden International School was established in September 1996 as a not-for-profit association to serve the international expatriate community in Dresden and its environs. In 1999 the DlS Mission Statement was approved: 'The goal of the Dresden International School is to provide excellent education to students of all nationalities based on the International Baccalaureate Program and its philosophy. The school is dedicated to intercultural understanding and the development of the individual talents of young people. '
The school program is enriched by the cultural and scientific heritage of Dresden, the capital of the German State of Saxony. English is the main language of instruction, with a strong German bilingual focus. There is full provision for students for whom English is not the first language. Smaller classes enable the teachers to address the needs and interests of each individual child.
The school has full IB authorization for its Diploma, MYP and PYP Programs and had its first graduates in June 2004. CIS/NEASC Accreditation is expected by Fall 2009. DIS has growing library/media centres with a wide variety of learning resources. Drama and music productions are performed by students at school and community events. The school's sports teams compete in the German International Schools Sports Tournaments (GISST). The school community is supported by a strong Parent-Teacher Association.
DIS is located near the historic sites in the centre of Dresden. The Annen Campus outside facilities include a large play space with a multi-purpose sports hall including a sports field on the roof. Early Primary students (aged 3-5) are taught in a villa at Goetheallee 18. A successful Summer Language Program offers both English and German language courses. New students are accepted throughout the year.
