School Introduction The TEFL International Athens center is conveniently situated in the Ilisia / Zografou area of downtown Athens, near the university campus. The school is in a pleasant and quiet neighborhood, within easy reach of all facilities and public transportation.
There are nine classrooms spread over three floors, and also a spacious basement which provides an additional quiet place to work on lesson preparation. Ground-level access and an elevator to all three floors plus basement ensure that all areas of the school are fully accessible.
ESL Program Introduction
The course consists of three hours of input sessions each morning, covering Language Awareness & Teaching Skills, and guided lesson planning, observed teaching practice and feedback each afternoon. Language Awareness sessions aim to consolidate your knowledge of grammar and phonology, and provide practical ideas as to how these can be taught. The Teaching Skills sessions develop your skills in areas such as teaching grammar and vocabulary, creating your own materials and correcting students’ errors.
For the first two evenings of the course, you will observe the trainers teaching classes of Greek students. From the third evening, you will be teaching the students yourself.
Each afternoon, working with the guidance of the trainers, you prepare for the lessons that you will be teaching to put into practice the skills learnt on the course. Each lesson is observed by one of the trainers, who gives you detailed written feedback. After each lesson, you have a discussion with the trainer, developing the feedback and suggesting areas for attention.
The TEFL International Athens center is based in a local school of English, providing you with practice teaching classes of Greek children and teenagers. This gives you realistic preparation for exactly the kind of teaching situation you'll be in when you start your career on completion of the course.
