Learning Support Programme
The American International School of Budapest is a co-educational, private, not-for-profit, English-language day school providing a comprehensive and challenging educational program to expatriate and Hungarian children in Budapest. Founded in 1973, the school offers a rich and demanding program based on best practices of international and American education. Over 750 students from 57 nations are enrolled and approximately 20% are from the USA. The school year begins in late August and ends in mid-June.
The school consolidated in August 2009 on to a single, unified, state-of-the-art campus in Nagykov?si, some 13 kilometers from the center of Budapest.
Planning has been driven by programmatic needs following a ‘classroom cluster’ concept with the students then moving elsewhere in the building for music, drama, technology and PE.
Grades 6-12 will remain in the current Nagykov?si campus building where there are 54 general classrooms, science labs, four computer labs, band room, chorus room, drama/dance studio, three art studios, 350-seat theater, black box theatre, library, two gymnasiums, fitness center, indoor swimming pool and cafeteria. The campus has extensive outdoor sports fields.
The Lower Elementary program (PreK-2) emphasizes language development, whereas Upper Elementary (gr 3-5) adds a focus on developing learning skills and habits that will enable students to transition effectively to grade 6. The grade 6-8 program is based on the developmentally appropriate middle school model, providing challenging yet engaging learning experiences in core and exploratory subjects.
The high school program of studies is comprehensive, leading to the International Baccalaureate in grades 11-12. Approximately 95% of students elect to take IB courses. The school has a 100% success rate at the full Diploma level.
English-as-a-second-language, resource room support and counseling services are provided. There is a popular After-School-Activities program, a full range of interscholastic sports and cultural activities.
