BIS follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales, offering the GCSE, IGCSE and International Baccalaureate Diploma and Certificates. The emphasis is on providing students with the very best education that will stand comparison to the top schools in their home countries. Of the 43 nationalities currently represented, approximately 30% are British. The school year comprises three terms beginning in August and ending in July. The BIS foundation is led by a Council of Trustees which delegates executive responsibility for the administration of the school to a Board of Governors, comprising elected and co-opted members from the parent body. The school's purpose-designed, 18-hectare campus is south west of the city centre in a green field location. Facilities include libraries, sports halls, cafeteria, specialised computing, science and technology labs, music facilities, playing fields, tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool and a theatre with a seating capacity of over 750. All classrooms are equipped with computers and interactive whiteboards. Extra curricular activities offer a variety of sports, performing arts and creative opportunities including for example, drama, Tai Kwon Do, scuba diving, orchestra, ballet, languages, dance, golf, rugby, football, basketball and tennis. The school also offers summer activities during the school holiday break. The aim of the school is to offer the highest possible standard of education to enable each child to realise his or her academic, social and physical potential, and to develop his or her aesthetic awareness - both as an individual and as a member of society. Priority is given to providing the child with a secure, friendly and stimulating environment in which they can benefit from high teaching standards, excellent facilities and a broad based curriculum. |
