Taejon Christian International SchoolIB World SchoolInternational Boarding Program
Founded in 1958 by missionaries as a centrally located
boarding school outside of Seoul. Taejon Christian International School
(TCIS) opened the 2012-2013 school year at a brand new purpose-built
campus in Daedeok Techno Valley, located in the newly developed section
of Daejeon, leaving the old part of the city more than half a century
after U.S. missionaries founded the school in 1958. Techno Valley is an
attractive business park and residential area surrounded by greenery and
a golf course and is located adjacent to the Daedeok Science Town.
With the move to the new campus the exceptional
educational product will now be produced in a 21st century learning
environment for PK-12th grade students. Spread on 43,000 square-meter
property, phase one of the construction includes a five-story academic
building, a multi-storied gymnasium complex, a 500-seat performing arts
center, an activity center and a five-story dormitory. The school has
made efforts to be an environmentally friendly facility wherever
possible.
TCIS traces its humble beginnings back
to the end of the Korean War when it was founded in 1958 under the
original name of Korean Christian Academy for educating the children of
U.S. missionaries connected with the once-thriving Pyongyang Foreign
School that traces its opening to 1900. The school today has grown into
a vibrant community serving a diverse body of international students
representing some 20 countries spearheading the highly respected IB
education within Korea. TCIS is the first fully authorized IB world
school in Korea offering all three IB programs: PYP, MYP and DP and
accredited by WASC
Academics and Christian character
development have always been central to TCIS education. TCIS graduates
matriculate to prominent universities around the world. Members of the
2014 graduating class were offered admissions into Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, UC Berkeley, New
York, Northwestern, University of Pennsylvania, University of the
Pacific Dentistry, University of California at LA, Brandies, Case
Western Reserve, University of Hong Kong, among many other renowned
institutions. To serve students from other parts of Korea and the rest
of Asia, the school operates one of the most renowned, accredited
boarding programs for 6th-12th students in a safe, family-like
environment. The new campus was developed through the school’s
partnership with the City of Daejeon, the Korean central government, and
Hyosan Medical Foundation. Contact
