Linguatime is fully licensed by the Ministry of Education to teach English as a foreign language and is a full member of FELTOM (Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations Malta).


Our English language school overlooks St.Julian's Bay and is conveniently located on the seafront of Sliema, a seaside resort on Malta's north east coast. It is the largest and most modern town on the island comprising of numerous cafes, shopping outlets, restaurants, rocky beaches and various accommodations. The school occupies a 1950's building, which has been refurbished to provide a comfortable and spacious setting. Facilities include 15 classrooms with a student capacity of 120, a lending library inclusive of graded readers, reference and practice books, cassettes, videos and CD Roms, 2 computer rooms with free internet acess, a leisure room with TV, video and refreshment facilities and a games room including table tennis and table soccer.

ESL Program Introduction

Our primary concern is to ensure that you are satisfied with the course chosen and that you get the maximum benefit from the selected programme. Our courses are structured to help you become more confident in English through the teaching of language systems (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation) and the development of communicative language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).

General English : The course covers the basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, together with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The emphasis is on communication, which will enable the student to build up a rich vocabulary base, to improve communicative fluency and to develop confidence in the use of the language

Business English - This course is aimed at people who need to communicate effectively in English at work and covers those skills needed for making presentations, negotiating, writing letters, faxes, emails and reports, making and answering enquiries, telephoning and participating in meetings. At pre-intermediate levels this course is only offered as private tuition. Students at pre-intermediate to advanced levels may opt for either private or group tuition

Examination Courses :

TOEFL Examination - The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) evaluates the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. Most people who take the TOEFL test are planning to study at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. TOEFL is also used by institutions in other countries where English is the language of instruction. Students follow a group General English Course and have private tuition in TOEFL in order to gain the confidence needed to score well in the TOEFL examination.

Cambridge Examinations - These prestigious examinations are organised by UCLES, the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate – or, as they are known all over the world, simply Cambridge. They are ideal for long-term students seeking to achieve near native competence in English. You are tested in all the four communicative language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing. The examinations offered in Malta are at four levels

IELTS Examination - IELTS (the International English Testing System) is jointly managed by Cambridge (UCLES), the British Council and IDP Education Australia. It is designed to test the language skills needed to study or work in the English language. The reading and writing skills can be tested in either academic English (ideal if you plan to go on to higher education) or in general training, which is suitable if you plan to work or train in English, or if you need IELTS for immigration purposes. IELTS is accepted by most Australian, Canadian, British and New Zealand academic institutions, and by an increasing number of United States academic institutions.

Many universities require an IELTS examination score of around Band 6 for entry to their degree courses, which corresponds to a Strong Upper Intermediate level.

Housing/Accommodation Info

Host Family Accommodation - Linguatime can help you find suitable accommodation in Malta but, should you prefer to do so, you may also make your own arrangements. We have a selection of English speaking host families, apartments, hotels and guesthouses and will do our utmost to ensure that your accommodation in Malta is compatible with your needs School Residence Accommodation - The Mercury School Residence is the ideal student accommodation located in the heart of Sliema just 5 minutes walk from the school. There are 18 comfortably furnished, self-catering apartments with one, two or three bedrooms. They can be booked as shared room, single room or single apartments. The maximum number of persons that will be accommodated in one bedroom is 2. The Residence is only available to students over 18 years of age. All apartments are serviced by a lift and have a lounge and dining area, a kitchenette, a bathroom with toilet and either a terrace, balcony or windows. A customer service bureau and office is open weekdays from 0800 till 1300 hrs. Apartments - For those students who require more independence and freedom, we have a range of self-catering apartments close to our school premises to choose from. All apartments are fully furnished and include a washing machine, kitchen utensils with a cooker or microwave. Apartments are subject to availability and we recommend early bookings Hotels and Guesthouses - A large number of hotels and guesthouses can be found in close proximity to the school. Hotels on our list range from two to five star and most have a TV in the room, air-conditioning and a swimming pool
