School Introduction

In Houston since 1971, the ELS Language Center is on the campus of the University of St. Thomas (UST) and is located in Houston's Museum District, across the street from the UST Admissions Office and athletic field. Houston, America's fourth largest city, is the center of the world's energy industry and a major destination for international students. Students enjoy weekend visits to the NASA Space Center in Houston, Gulf of Mexico beaches, San Antonio, Dallas, New Orleans and Mexico.

ESL Program Introduction

This location offers group General English and English for Academic Purposes (30 lessons per week), Semi-Intensive (20 lessons per week) and American Explorer (15 lessons per week) English programs. TOEFL iBT Prep Program and GRE Prep Program are also offered. Additionally, this location is a testing Center for IELTS, TOEFl iBT and TOEIC exams.

Students in the General English, English for Academic, Semi-Intensive & American Explorer English Programs receive instruction and practice in all key language skills: speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading & writing. The General English and English for Academic Programs also offers afternoon elective classes that focus on specific interests (such as American Idioms, American Film, Current Events and American Culture).

The comprehensive, 12-week TOEFL iBT Prep Program (30 lessons per week) offers practice in reading & listening skills, writing and speaking, as well as test-taking strategies to help increase the TOEFL score.

The GRE prep 6-hour per day program combines advanced language enrichment with one hour of GRE language self-study and two hours of GRE test Prep strategies. Four or eight (recommended) week options are available. The maximum class size is 15.

Private instruction for Executives is also available.
