The International Section works within the French public school unit and receives both French and foreign pupils at all levels, primary, junior, middle and senior schools. Each section is managed by a Head of Section under the authority of the Headmaster of each school, under the overall authority of the 'Education Nationale' of Monaco. The section offers the Baccalauréat Français Option Internationale (BOI).
The BOI students initially follow a French syllabus with the following subjects taught in English; history, geography, English language and literature. The BOI prepares for admission to anglophone universities worldwide, French Universities and les Grandes Ecoles.
The staff are all qualified professional teachers with a lot of experience. The student body is approximately 20% Anglophone (British, American, Canadian) and the remainder are Francophone. In the primary and junior schools the children have four hours of English a week. In the middle and senior schools the pupils have six hours of English plus two hours of history and geography in English a week. Extra-curricular activities include magazine club, theatre and singing, and visits.
The admission procedure is specific to Monaco; as the section is non fee-paying, pupils must first meet the requirements for schools within Monaco (Monaco nationals or residents in the Principality). Criteria for admission into the section are based on academic ability, review of school reports and tests in English.
