Learning Support Programme
The Casablanca American School, founded in 1973, is an independent, coeducational, university preparatory day school offering a US and International Baccalaureate-oriented education from Nursery through Grade 12. The school year is divided into three trimesters that extend from early September through mid-June.
The curriculum is that of US and international private university-preparatory schools. Instruction is in English. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is offered in Grades 11 and 12 with virtually all Grade 11 and 12 courses based on IB syllabi. Advanced Placement exams may be offered if requested. Specialist subjects include art, computer, health, music and physical education. French and Arabic are mandatory languages in Grades 2-10. After-school sports, such as track and swimming, are conducted at local facilities. Soccer, volleyball, basketball, and other team sports are offered at the school. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
In the 2008-2009 school year, there were 72 full-time and 7 part-time faculty members, 19 Lower and Upper school classroom aides, and four teaching interns. Of the total, there are 35 US citizens, 15 host-country nationals, and 20 third-country nationals.
By May of the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment was 559 (N-grade 5: 305; and grades 6-12: 254). Of the total, 91 were US citizens, 288 were host-country nationals, and 180 third-country nationals.
The physical plant built in 1989, with an extension completed in 2002, is on approximately 11, 800˛Mcovered and is situated on a 20, 000Mparcel of land in a residential area 9kMfrom the city's center. The facility includes a preschool with six classrooms: an administration building with a reception area, a two-level library; and a staff common room and offices. The Randolph Building consists of 27 classrooms; a multipurpose room; an art studio; and a computer laboratory, and chemistry, physics and biology laboratories. The new building, inaugurated in June 2002, consists of 12 classrooms: an art studio, a computer laboratory, a science laboratory, a library: two music/performance rooms, the Anne Healy Osman Theatre with 350 seats, administration offices, a conference room and a staff common room. Facilities also include a gymnasium; a kitchen, cafeteria, an infirmary, a sports field and an outdoor basketball court.
