International Schools in Christchurch New Zealand

Merrin School Christchurch New Zealand

Merrin School is a warmly welcoming and vibrant school. Located in the North West of Christchurch, Merrin School is strongly supported by our community, Board of Trustees and PTA, all of whom are actively and enthusiastically involved with our children's education and achievement.

At Merrin we work hard to ensure that our learners are happy, engaged and continually challenged in their learning and overall development. Our vision is to 'inspire stars,' which means that we want our students to have the self-belief, skills and competencies to believe that anything and everything is possible.

Merrin School is a highly achieving school with particular strengths in Maths, Science, ESOL and ICT. Providing positive outcomes for children means employing quality teachers. We are very fortunate at Merrin that we have a strongly positive culture of collaboration, collegiality and professional support within our staff. We view ourselves as being on a life long learning journey of self-improvement alongside our learners. Merrin School staff believes that we must educate our students to be prepared to deal with the challenges of the 21st century and the ever-changing technological age.

We have many child-centred programmes operating at Merrin and over time our website will grow to include information on each one.

Our 'Te Kotiritiri' Home Learning programme, which translates as 'Shooting Stars', encourages our children to learn and practise valuable key competency based life skills.

Our 'Tiny Stars' programme welcomes our four and a half year old children to attend their 'soon to be' new entrant classroom one afternoon per week during 'discovery time'. This means that by the time our new 'stars' have turned five they are feeling comfortable and excited about beginning school.

2016 sees the continuation of the increased use of Digital Technologies and the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme.

Teachers will continue to develop Self Regulated Learning Programmes, to help prepare our students for the future by assisting them to become independent learners.

We are also committed to school wide Physical Activity and increased student fitness levels. The Sport Start Programme will be implemented in all levels of the school this year.

At Merrin we are incredibly privileged to have students from many different countries and cultures attending our school. Our policy of active inclusion is seen in the many cultural groups that exist at our school. We believe that this helps to make Merrin School the rich and exciting learning place that it is.

Merrin school welcomes International students and we provide a wide variety of services at our school for these students.

These includes:

  • Kiwi English Experience Packages
  • Year 7 and 8 study
  • Child and Parent Packages
  • Tailor Made Packages

·         ESOL tuition

ESOL at Merrin offers support to our learners who are learning English in addition to their own language. Working with trained tutors our students receive in-class and/or individual support to ensure that they are able to achieve within their classroom programme.
