The University of Otago was the first university to be established in New Zealand ((1869) and is internationally recognised for the quality of its teaching and research. The University offers world class courses to 19,000 students including over 2,000 international students, from 80 countries.

The Language Centre and Foundation Year is located on the university campus in our own purpose-built facility.

The University of Otago Language Centre offers one term of 6 weeks and three terms of 12 weeks. This includes 22.5 hours of tuition per week, supervised self study and activities. Only15 students per class

We use the latest teaching technologies. You will use our Sony multimedia language lab, i-mac computer suite and Independent Learning Centre, and you will have access to all University of Otago resources

The University of Otago Foundation Year

The University of Otago Foundation Year was established in 1997 in association with the University of New South Wales in Australia

Foundation Year may provide admission to all universities in New Zealand and many excellent universities in Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada, if you meet the academic requirements

Six streams designed to prepare you for the degree you will study at university. By meeting the required academic standards at Foundation Year, you are guaranteed entry to the first year of your degree
