St John's Boys' College New Zealand

Each year we welcome only 30-35 International Students from a variety of countries to join our college of 600 boys.

Location and Facilities

Our college is situated adjacent to the University of Waikato (NZ) and is only one hour's drive from Auckland International Airport. It is also less than one and a half hours from both coasts and Rotorua. It has a wonderful gymnasium, music block, computerized library, technology blocks and up- to-date science blocks . The Music Department operates many instrumental groups catering for divergent interests - Concert Band, Ceildh as well as Folk and Rock Groups.

Academic Programme  Yrs 9-13

The New Zealand National Curriculum is taught at all levels. A great variety of subjects are offered with multilevel subject choice, leading to all tertiary education options eg university, polytechnic and other tertiary providers

English language Classes

We have qualified ESOL teachers who assess the student on arrival and orientate them into school programmes. Guidance and advice is given over the selection of subjects. ESOL classes are small (maximum 12 students) and are offered at junior and senior levels.

Student Pastoral Care

The Dean of International Students keeps in contact with the students on a daily basis. International Students are catered for in their vertical tutor groups as well

Accommodation

Homestays are the preferred option. There are families from the St John's Catholic Community

who welcome international students. Many have boys attending the college. Homestay fees are currently NZ$200 per week plus a NZ$100 placement fee.

Fees

Annual fees are NZ$12 000. These are reviewed on annual basis. This fee coves tuition and text books but excludes public examination entry fees and personal stationery requirements.

Enrolment forms, a prospectus and relevant details are available from the school on request.

Medical and Travel Insurance

All students are required to have full medical and travel insurance. This is available from the college. If insurance is arranged elsewhere proof of insurance must be given.

Guardian:

All students must have a local English speaking guardian who takes responsibility for the student and looks after their visa, travel and health needs which parents would normally manage.
