Faculties
& Departments
There
are seven faculties, with Theology taught in partnership with the Auckland
Consortium for Theological Education -a cooperative venture of five
autonomous theological colleges. Faculties are each headed by a Dean, who
is usually supported by a Faculty Registrar, Administrative Officer and
other administrative staff. The Dean is responsible for coordinating the
academic and research activities of the individual department and liaises
with both the Registry and the Senate committees on regulations, staff
appointments, buildings, research funding, library facilities,
timetabling, etc. The faculty and departmental offices provide assistance
to students who are encouraged to contact the relevant staff for
information and advice.
Each
faculty is a sub-committee of Senate. This body includes all the
professors, heads of academic departments, and elected representatives of
non-professorial staff and students. Senate takes advice from Education
and Research Committees, from specialist committees (dealing for example
with the Library, and Information Technology) and the faculties.
Senate
is consulted on academic matters by the University's governing body, a
Council of 18 members, comprising representatives of staff, students,
graduates and ministerial appointees. The Vice-Chancellor (the chief
executive officer who manages the academic and administrative affairs of
the University) is also a member. Council is chaired by the Chancellor.
