The School of Māori and Pacific Development
University of Waikato, New Zealand
Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao o Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato aims to uplift the
people of Aotearoa and to be the leading school of excellence in the
teaching and learning, research and development of Mātauranga Māori and
indigenous knowledge, and to be the first choice school for Māori and
Pacific students. Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao represents innovation and
tradition in teaching and research, and it provides national and
international leadership in Māori, Pacific and indigenous issues and
sustainable development. Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao is distinctive in that
it actively promotes Māori, Pacific and indigenous peoples cultural and
development issues through its teachings, research, conferences and
publications. Staff of Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao provide leadership and
role modelling in teaching, research and administration, and the School
offers a full range of academic opportunities from undergraduate to
post-doctoral teaching and research.
Te
Puawānanga is a native flower that symbolizes Māori civilization from
which its intellectual and educational philosophies and knowledge
evolved. We exist within a university that reflects the wider
intellectual world we live in. By knowing who we are and where we come
from, we can acquire new knowledge with confidence to add to the
accumulated wisdom of our ancestors.
