he International School of Aberdeen (ISA) was founded in 1972 and specialises in offering an internationally recognised, co-educational, pre-kindergarten through secondary school education for students of all nationalities. ISA's programme of studies has been developed to meet the needs of its North American and international student body by utilising the best examples of US and international curricular models. Both CIS and MSA accredit ISA.
The recipient of Aberdeen Civic Society Awards for Architectural Excellence and Preservation of the Natural Environment, ISA's ten-acre Royal Deeside campus features ISDN internet computer connections in every classroom, two computer centres, a fully networked library/media centre, three science laboratories, modern language laboratories (French and Spanish instruction begins in Pre-Kindergarten), vocal and instrumental music facilities, a full-sized US-style gymnasium, an artificial turf play area, and a large all-purpose playing field.
The International School of Aberdeen is organised into four sections: Pre-Kindergarten (ages 3-5), Elementary School (Kindergarten-Grade 5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). The High School offers the US diploma and is the only school in Scotland to offer the full International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. ISA is an approved regional testing centre, and administers the IOWA, PSAT, SAT and ACT examinations.
In addition to the rigorous pursuit of academics, student participation in co- and extra-curricular activities is viewed as essential to the full educational experience. National and international field trips and a full range of athletics are offered, as well as a number of clubs and activities that include computers, art, music, drama, MUN and Habitat.
All teaching staff at the International School of Aberdeen are university certified and more than half hold advanced degrees. Over 30 nationalities are represented in the total enrolment, the highest percentage being North American. All ISA graduates are prepared to enter colleges and universities, and over 90% elect to do so.
Intensive English Language instruction (EAL) is available for non-native speakers as well as limited specialist assistance for children with mild learning disabilities. Admission will be determined by the school, according to its ability to provide a suitable programme for the child.
