The College's aim is to provide a curriculum sufficiently flexible to meet a wide range of demands and rigorous enough to meet the challenge of any national system whilst catering for a wide range of abilities. In accordance with the ideals of the UWC movement, the experience of studying in a multi-national and multi-cultural school is also utilized to cultivate in students the value of tolerance and understanding of other ways of life. Experiential education and service are other key aspects of UWCSEA. All students undertake age-appropriate expeditions and service projects, both within Singapore and internationally. UWCSEA is a not-for-profit school. The governing body of the College includes eminent figures within Singapore in the fields of finance, law and management. Parents and exstudents are also represented. All governors serve in an honorary capacity. Teachers are required to hold full teaching qualifications in addition to degrees in their main subjects. Experienced specialists are employed in all subject areas and have considerable experience in running extra-curricular activities. The majority of staff are British, with teachers of 29 other nationalities. The College is modern and well-equipped with air-conditioned classrooms and specialist facilities providing for a wide range of educational activities. Sports facilities include an Olympic size pool and wading pool, two large sports halls, a fitness centre, two Astroturf pitches, soccer and rugby pitches, and six tennis courts. The five performance areas seat between 200 and 400 and are fully equipped with lighting and sound facilities. A new music suite offers 28 practice rooms. There are also specialist rooms for teaching home economics, design and technology, science and 3D art, and a thirty-booth language laboratory. The College's two main libraries hold over 42, 000 volumes and a range of resources on CD-ROM. Boarders are housed together with others of the same age in recently-built dormitories for three or four occupants. Mahindra House takes ages 11-16 and Senior House has ages 16-18. Each house has full facilities for different age groups.
