Profile

Aloha College offers a British education for an international community:  students are taught the English National Curriculum until the age of 16 when they take their IGCSE examinations with the Cambridge International Board.  They then choose either the International Baccalaureate Diploma or the A-level Programme to take them to a prestigious university in the UK, Spain, rest of Europe, USA or Canada.  All children learn Spanish Language and Culture and all of our students (we have 45 nationalities) are at least bilingual.

The School was founded in 1982 by six teachers, at the behest of local and expatriate families, who invested their own money in what was then and is to this day a not-for-profit-making project.  The school has grown from the 210 pupils of then to 770 currently, and from one small building which housed everyone to the present nearly 30,000 m2 of buildings and sport/recreational areas.

Secondary School pupils moved into their own new buildings in September 2004.  A Science block, an Arts block and a Library/Resources area reflect the specialisation of the teaching structure in Aloha College.  There are 6 Science laboratories and 2 IT labs in the Science area, while the Arts block boasts 3 Art Rooms, 1 specially designed for VI form students.  Drama students enjoy the use of a sophisticated theatre area.

The Primary School is situated in the original, main, building and all the classrooms have undergone complete renovation over the last 4 years.  In a different area of the Primary School is Foundation Stage, also completely renovated, and with an extended teaching area just opened in September 2013.

All buildings have underfloor heating, air conditioning and wi-fi. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and a battery of resources which put the school at the cutting edge of teaching technology.

Play and sports areas have undergone continual improvements over the last few years.  As well as the new surfaces on the sports pitches which are safe and comfortable for the little ones, we are also proud of the new football pitch, certified by UEFA, and completed in summer 2012.

The new multi-purpose building which will cover all our sporting and cultural needs is an ambitious project, to be initiated at the end of this school year.  The planned facility will cover nearly 2,000 square metres with a multi-purpose sports area, a stage professional enough for any theatrical production, plus a gymnasium or multi-purpose hall.

All age groups enjoy educational visits in the course of the year throughout Andalucia and to Madrid and pupils can participate in an extensive extra-curricular activities programme on most afternoons as well as in various sports teams.

Lunches are prepared each day on the premises and parents receive the monthly menu and suggestions for dinner.

The College operates a bus service to transport pupils to school from the outlying districts to the east and west of Marbella.

Entry is by interview and examination arranged through the Registrar.

 Purpose and goals

The primary aims of Aloha College are to enlarge each student's knowledge, experience and imagination and to enable him or her to develop a set of moral principles, within a spirit of international understanding and interchange.

Academically we aim to enable students to achieve the best results they are capable of so they can choose which is to be their path in life.

Our teaching methods encourage students to discover, to create, to think for themselves and to seek their own answers to the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Values

The student code of conduct is based on the values of respect for others, oneself, for property and for the environment.

Students come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, and friendships are forged which last a lifetime and promote tolerance and understanding worldwide.  Nationality,  race or religion are no longer an issue.
