Profile

El Limonar International School, like its name suggests, is the Murcian school with a truly global outlook and commitment to preparing our students for national and international careers. Using the consistency and rigor of the English academic curriculum as our base, we prepare our students to be trilingual and to graduate with three to six A-levels and the Spaanish Bachillerato certificate.

El Limonar International School (ELIS) began its life in 1990 with a total of 46 pupils aged 2, 3 and 4, all of whom are currently working and developing their successful careers whilst remaining in touch with the school through our alumni association.

As the school roll grew, our original facilities became too small for the numbers of pupils and so, in 1994, after months of searching and thinking, planning and building, the school expanded onto its current site.

As time swiftly moved on, and we saw our children and pupils grow, the school consolidated and enriched its educational programme at the same speed. The contributions and ideas of new members of staff coming on board each year were decisive in the growth of the school's educational project. Throughout this development and growth, the mission and values have remained the same however, and El Limonar International School educational purpose can be summarized as follows:

OUR VALUES

Our education is based on pupils' individual abilities, on their social integration and on academic success within the framework of the National Curriculum of England and Wales. The philosophy of El Limonar International School Murcia is defined by the following principles:

·  To provide a safe and democratic educational community with maximum learning opportunities for all pupils while recognising each child's unique abilities;

·  To develop pupils' sense of respect and dignity in order to be sensitive to an even greater degree of inner excellence;

·  To facilitate the development of personal and social skills that lead to mature citizenship in a diverse and rapidly changing world;

·  To promote the mastery of academic skills and the understanding of concepts that will lead to a lifetime of meaningful application and personal excellence;

·  To encourage learners to think critically and logically and to process knowledge and information powerfully to effectively meet life's challenges;

·  To optimise English immersion in order to achieve linguistic excellence in a global society;

·  To encourage high performance in logical mathematical thinking in order to accomplish academic excellence;

·  To nurture a love of literacy and creativity within our students through literature, poetry, arts and music;

·  To develop pupils' understanding of the importance of physical wellbeing through health and exercise.

In 2008 El Limonar International School was sold to Cognita Spain which is part of the world's largest private education group based in the UK with over 60 schools in England, Wales, Spain, Asia and Latin America.

In 2012, the Founding Directors Antonio Alonso and José Lorite stepped down and El Limonar International School´s  first Principal, Mr. Christopher Eversden, was appointed.

Since the appointment of Mr Eversden, the pace of development at El Limonar International School Murcia has further increased. In 2013 the school curriculum has changed in order to offer a formally British International education with all students taking IGCSE examinations in Year 11, and AS and A-Levels in Years 12 and 13. The school has a restructured leadership and management team and an increased proportion of the teaching staff are UK-trained native English speakers. In 2015 the development process reached the new height of opening a new Early Years and Key Stage 1 teaching facility and all El Limonar International School Murcia teaching was consolidated onto the El Palmar site to the south of the city. In September 2015 the progress and standards of the school were recognized with the achievement of COBIS school membership. The school currently educates over 640 students.

El Limonar International School Murcia is set in 63.000 m² of grounds in the Urbanisation Colonia Buenavista. The site caters for pupils from 3 "“ 18 years, from Early Years in our new building, through to Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.

The school comprises six buildings: four for teaching, one for administration and a new multi-purpose examination and assembly hall. The teaching buildings house bright, spacious classrooms, IT suites, Science laboratories and Drama, Art and Music rooms. Information technology plays an important role inside the classrooms, all being equipped with interactive whiteboards and computers which are continually updated to ensure the most modern software is available. WiFi throughout the school allows for teachers and students to make regular use of class sets of tablets (Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form) and iPads (Early Years).

Outside there are magnificent sports facilities: tennis and paddle-tennis courts, a 25m swimming pool, sports fields and playgrounds. These installations allow our pupils to train for official competitions and to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities.

The kitchen and main dining room are located in one of the teaching buildings and a 3-course meal is cooked every day by our own catering staff. The menu is supervised by the Senior Leadership Team and is based on the Mediterranean diet, although regional and international specialities are included. We cater for any special dietary needs required for medical reasons.
