Learning Support Programme
Stockholm International School is an independent, open-admission, co-educational, K-12 day school governed by a Board of Trustees. The school year runs from mid-August to mid-June and has a minimum instructional period of 180 days divided into two semesters. The school’s mission is: Valued, Challenged, Prepared. The school’s vision is to enable students to learn, develop, grow and fulfil their potential in an international environment, which is student centered, safe, nurturing and rich with opportunities to learn.
SIS is housed in a well-equipped building in the centre of Stockholm, next to a park on a hilltop near the main downtown business area. The location offers easy access to a wide range of museums, parks, historical sites and other places of interest that provide enrichment to the academic program. The facility is a seven-level building with classrooms, science laboratories, information technology rooms, an auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium, and specialist rooms for art, music and drama. Classes are small with 20 being the maximum size from grade 4 upwards.
The student body numbers 517, representing over 50 nationalities, including a small percentage of Swedish nationals.
The teaching faculty of 75 teachers represent 17 nationalities.
The International Primary Curriculum (IPC), the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programs (DP) form the basis of the school’s academic mission. All three programs of study are inquiry-based methodologies designed to meet the individual needs of an exceptionally diverse student body.
Stockholm International School recognises that the curriculum must address not only academic learning but also guarantee the development of all key learning processes. In addition, SIS recognises that social and personal skills are central to effective learning and development. To this end the school uses a three-part curriculum model.
