School Introduction Based in Whitby, North Yorkshire, English Lives is for those who already know some English and want to learn more about English culture as well as practise and improve their English. There are no coursebooks, no classrooms - just lots of opportunities for speaking practice and learn lots and lots of vocabulary.
We offer a range of different, week-long programmes from June to September allowing you to travel around the area visiting many interesting and beautiful places and learn English in a cultural context. Each programme has a theme such as local history, Christian heritage and walking.

In the evenings there are a variety of social activities, giving you more opportunities to practise your English with others on the programme as well as local people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
You will live with host families during your time with us. Many of our hosts welcomed students from the former' Functional English school into their homes, so will enjoy helping you practise your English!
Our courses are open to everyone over the age of 17. Families are welcome too.
ESL Program Introduction
English Lives gives the opportunity for those with some knowledge of English to put their English into practice. It is an ideal way for people of any age who are looking to improve their English conversational and vocabulary skills whilst discovering something of the culture of England.
English Lives does this by offering a range of different, week-long programmes from May to September which allow you to travel around the area visiting many interesting and beautiful places and learn English in a cultural context. Each programme has a theme such as local history, Christian heritage and walking.
English Lives will expand your vocabulary and improve your speaking skills without you having to study in a classroom. It is a completely different learning experience. You will live with a host family and go on a wide variety of trips, so you will always be surrounded by the English language and culture.
English Lives offers weekly programmes - ideal for those visiting England on holiday and wanting to improve their English at the same time. English Lives is perfect for you if you want two things: to improve your speaking and to learn more vocabulary.
