School Introduction We are a small Residential English Language School situated in the City of York.
The School is privately owned and the teaching is done by the owner and Director of Studies Mr Chris Jones who has just retired from a highly qualified teaching position to open this small, quality controlled language school.
Students will be part of the family during their stay and the teaching group will not exceed 6 students. All students have their own rooms, that have a Television, en suite on request, free wireless laptop facilities and private study area.
Our teaching is based on total immersion in the English language and your learning of English will be both intensive and enjoyable in a warm friendly environment.
Chris and Therese as the host family have had 15 years experience in looking after foreign students of all nationalities, many of whom have become firm friends and return year after year to visit.
ESL Program Introduction
All of the below listed courses can be adapted to suit the individual student's needs:
Course A - Fully inclusive Residential Homestay
* For rapid progress and to make the most of your stay, this is the Course for you. 15 hours per week; transport to and from York Railway Station or Bus Park; comfortable accommodation and all meals are included in the price. You will have part of the day to enjoy at your leisure the many attractions York has to offer.
Course B - Fully inclusive Residential Homestay
* This Course is more intense and involves 25 hours per week learning English. Come on your own or with friends or family members. Stay in a single or twin room at Amor Matris and enjoy the small group lessons. Lessons for this Course will take place from 9-30 am to 4-00 pm.
Course C - Business English (EOP)
* A specially designed course for students to understand Business English. This will include scanning, skimming, reading for detail, coherent reference etc. The Course will as a basis include Speaking skills, Grammar (present Simple), specialised vocabulary, Note-taking, Letter Writing, Elipsis, Substitution and Anaphoric and Cataphoric reference.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
* If you intend to use English for study purposes this course will help you prepare for your test. It will contain 4 modules – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Listening and Speaking are taken by all candidates, while the Academic Reading and Writing modules are taken by candidates intending to use English for study purposes. Emphasis will be on core grammar and vocabulary to build confidence and accuracy.
