Study Children's Literature at Roehampton

MA in Children's Literature

General Course Information

This popular programme not only involves the study of children's books, in all forms (including stage, film and television adaptations), but also their influence within our culture. We are internationally acclaimed for our work in Children's Literature, and this programme allows you to combine an overview with the opportunity to specialise in a field where original research is flourishing.

As a student on the MA programme, you'll be encouraged to explore the relationships between the adults who produce, publish, and in various ways, introduce books to children, and the children who are meant to read them. You'll also be introduced to critical theories and methods, enabling you to analyse the various sign systems employed in children's literature, and so to identify and evaluate the kinds of messages and value systems encoded in books for young readers. After following a compulsory course in Critical & Theoretical Perspectives, you will then be able to choose from many module options, or alternatively to pursue your own interests.

The International Centre understands that students from abroad have needs not only on arrival but throughout their stay. That is what we are here for.

International students who come to study at Roehampton are drawn to our unusual combination of beautiful green surroundings and the sophisticated city nearby.

Students tell us that if their first impression was of wonderful buildings and lovely grounds their next impression was of a friendly welcome and the happy atmosphere of life in the Colleges.

The wide range of international students enriches the experience of everyone studying at Roehampton and the flexibility of course structures enables access by a variety of students to all programmes.

The International Centre is the first port of call for international students. You may have been attracted by our website, been given a personal recommendation by a friend or been advised by one of our representatives at an exhibition. Whichever way, we will support your studies at Roehampton throughout your stay whether your needs are for orientation and induction, friendship, communication, accommodation, information, cultural understanding or just help and reassurance.
