Marymount International School

Founded in 1955 by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Marymount International School is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18. Over 200 boarding and day students representing some 50 nations are now enrolled in the school. The facilities at Marymount International School include a large theatre/auditorium, an art studio, a language centre, a resource centre, a science centre, a music centre, a full-size sports hall and a modern classroom block with library and computer centre. In January 1996 a new boarding extension was opened offering 16 single and double rooms for Seniors in addition to a recreational lounge for all students, an infirmary and a laundry.

Marymount's curriculum is designed to meet the needs and potential of each individual within its international community. Small classes are regarded as essential and the staff student ratio is 1:8. In grades 6-12, courses based on the American college preparatory curriculum are offered, integrated in grades 6-10 with the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. Students can elect to follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in grades 11 and 12. IB Diploma holders may be awarded sophomore standing in certain colleges in the United States. Marymount is a centre for the American College Testing Program; it prepares students for TOEFL and the College Board (SAT I & II, ACT, AP, PSAT/NMSQT).

On average, ninety-eight percent of the graduates pursue university degrees at top universities in the United Kingdom, United States, Europe and Japan.

Teams take part in the International Schools' Sports Association (ISSA) tournaments and the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) meetings. One-week optional educational tours to many countries abroad take place during the second semester. Understanding of other countries is also furthered by regular participation in the Model United Nations in The Hague.

Admission to Marymount International School is based on previous school records, teacher recommendations and, where possible, personal interview.
