Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh

Established in 1875, Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh is a leading Scottish university sector institution with United Kingdom degree awarding powers, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. We are one of the leading providers of degree courses in our specialist areas of Healthcare, Hospitality and Tourism, Media and Communication Studies and the Creative Arts.

We have a growing reputation for academic excellence, which is founded on intensive research carried out by the University College. QM is by far the most research active institution within the new university sector. In 2002, we were one of only two Scottish higher education institutions to win The Queen's Anniversary Prize, one of the most prestigious academic awards in the United Kingdom.

Our inspiring range of specialist, vocational courses equip students with the skills and knowledge demanded by today's employers. Currently, QMUC graduates enjoy one of the highest employment rates of any Scottish university: 96% of our graduates go on to work or further study within six months of graduation.

QMUC's prime location in the City of Edinburgh ensures that students enjoy a vibrant social life both on and off campus. The City of Edinburgh has frequently been voted ?the best place to live in the United Kingdom? and is the most popular tourist destination in the United Kingdom outside London. QMUC's three campuses are all within fifteen minutes of Edinburgh's attractive city centre, which each year hosts the Edinburgh International Festival, one of the largest arts festivals in the world.

QM's main Corstorphine campus is located in a tranquil setting about four miles west of Edinburgh's city centre. Corstorphine forms the heart of the University College, where the majority of academic faculties and administrative departments are based. The Leith campus is in an area that exudes great character and a real sense of community. This dynamic area is home to the Scottish Executive, the former Royal Yacht Britannia and the brand new Ocean Terminal shopping and leisure complex. Leith is also renowned for its variety of interesting bars, restaurants and shops. There are over 600 students based at the Leith campus, studying Podiatry, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Art Therapy.

QM's third campus is Scotland's International Drama Centre at The Gateway Theatre, located within walking distance from Edinburgh's city centre. The Gateway Theatre offers Drama, Acting and Stage Management students outstanding facilities to learn their craft. This unique centre, formerly home of Repertory Theatre in Edinburgh and then Scottish Television, provides movement studios, voice studios, rehearsal rooms, TV and radio studios, computer rooms, a workshop, a wardrobe and design facility and a large stage.

Queen Margaret University Collegeis privileged to have a varied and growing international student body, which currently comprises 12% of the total student body. Students from over 50 countries around the globe currently enjoy participating in the whole 'student experience' at QMUC, whilst advancing their education. At QMUC, we recognise that studying in a foreign country can be a daunting experience for many international students and there is a wide range of support available for international students. Our small size allows us to offer a friendly, responsive and understanding service. The International Office coordinates an orientation programme and range of social events, including free Christmas and New Year programmes, free bus trips to Fife and the Highlands and a free welcome dinner.

The University College prides itself on its community spirit. Our small size allows us to get to know each individual student and plan the most appropriate support for him or her. The International Study Centre (ISC) offers free English Language support for students whose first language is not English. ISC is the specialist English Language Teaching Unit at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh. International Study Centre teachers are not only highly trained English teachers but also have an extensive knowledge of other languages and have taught in countries worldwide. Most are also experienced teacher trainers and have specialist experience in a particular area. ISC offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate foundation courses, short summer courses and IELTS preparation.

QM also has an impressive range of facilities, including a 20m indoor swimming pool and sauna, sports hall, squash courts and fitness suite. The library offers an effective and up-to-date information service and the IT workshops have access to the University College's network facilities including e-mail, internet, CD-ROM library and online teaching materials. There are two cafeterias serving a variety of meals and snacks throughout the day. There is also a well-stocked shop on Corstorphine campus. All students also have access to the Student's Union, which organises a range of social activities.

Students at QM can choose to live in on-campus self-catering halls of residence or in selected home-stay accommodation. Accommodation in halls of residence has Internet access facilities and is located on or near each of the three campuses.
