ESL Program Introduction
The ESL program provides students with instruction in all language skill areas (grammar, reading, writing, conversation, listening comprehension, speech development, oral skills, error analysis, and TOEFL preparation) at six different proficiency levels. In addition to the regular curriculum, students go on field trips to nearby major cities and also visit local tourist attractions, including agricultural facilities and two lakes that form the largest man-made body of water in the world. Our ESL classes are small, averaging 10 to 12 students each. This makes it possible for instructors to give special, personal attention to each student. We have a modern language lab and a state-of-the-art computer writing lab. Students are encouraged to participate in special recreational activities, which provide even more English language experience. Students who successfully complete Level 6 of ESL are able to enroll in any undergraduate program and most graduate programs that are offered at Murray State. MSU strives to provide a friendly environment for international students, faculty and visitors. We have students from many different countries and all are encouraged to join in the activities of the International Student Organization. This organization sponsors picnics, buffet dinners, and dances designed to allow students from many different countries to learn from each other.
