We work closely with international students to help them succeed. Students who are not U.S. Citizens have two options to take classes at SPC:

On Campus students will live in the U.S. and take classes in person, online or in a blended format.

Online students remain in their home country, taking all of their classes online.

We also offer English and second language classes and English for Academic Purposes classes.

ESL Program Introduction

St. Petersburg College offers a variety of English language classes.

English for Academic Purposes classes help students with a primary language other than English bring their language skills up to the level where they can succeed with college level coursework. Entering students will be tested with a placement test for EAP and placed in the appropriate level of study indicated by their scores: Basic I, Basic II, Intermediate, or Advanced. Students enrolled in 12 credit hours of EAPwill be considered full-time students. The placement test for English is administered at St. Petersburg College on a regular basis.

English as a Second Language – Beginning, is designed for the community resident who has a limited ability to speak, read or understand English. The emphasis in this class is to understand and be understood with American English phrases and sentences.

English as a Second Language – Intermediate, is the second level of ESL, emphasizing continued progress in reading, speaking and writing of American English, as well as improving pronunciation and building vocabulary. This course is intended to better prepare students for academic study.

English for Conversation & Pronunciation, is the third level of ESOL, offered to beginning English speakers to sharpen their language skills by using correct word sounds. The course features role play and social conversations between the students, and emphasizes speaking and listening, as well as provides students with useful language lessons and practice for dynamic situations.

SPC offers classes during our regular terms as well as a variety of other modified term schedules. Regular terms include:

Spring term - Jan. 11 - May 6, 2010
Summer term - May 17 - July 22, 2010

Tuition for two-year courses for Florida residents is $87.12 per credit hour and $316.66 for out-of-state residents.
