School Introduction

The Institute of American Language and Culture (IALC) is located at Fordham University's Lincoln Center campus in the heart of Manhattan. The IALC provides courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) to students at all levels of proficiency.

The IALC's highly qualified and experienced faculty offer a challenging learning environment for students who want to improve their English for academic, business, or social purposes.

The IALC specializes in preparing non-native English speakers for study in American University classrooms. Many IALC students apply to and enroll in Fordham's undergraduate and graduate programs.

Fordham University is an independent institution offering higher education based on the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence. Fordham enrolls approximately 14, 000 students in its 10 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools.

ESL Program Introduction

The IALC offers New York's international community an academically challenging and competitively priced American English curriculum. The full-time intensive program and part-time courses enable motivated students to improve their English language skills in a limited amount of time.

American culture is an essential component of each IALC course. For students at the advanced level, the curriculum features a variety of content courses.

IALC students have opportunities to experience a variety of cultural activities, to participate in a language exchange program with native-English speaking Fordham students, and to atttend grammar and pronunciation workshops -- all at no additional cost.
