New Mexico Highlands University, also referred to as NMHU, is located in Las Vegas, New Mexico, United States. The university was established in the year 1893 as the New Mexico Normal School. It gained university status in 1902 and received its present name in 1941. The university enrolls more than 3, 000 students on an annual basis. There are five degree-granting schools and colleges under the university. They are:

The men's athletic teams of NMHU are known as the Cowboys, and the women's teams are called the Cowgirls. The Cowboys participate in sports such as rodeo, football, baseball, basketball, and cross country. The Cowgirls participate in soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, and rodeo.
