The College of Charleston is a public university founded in 1770. It was chartered in 1785, and is the oldest college in South Carolina. There are over 10, 000 undergraduates and postgraduates enrolled at the College of Charleston. The college's athletic teams are known as the Cougars and the official colors are maroon and white. The best-known athletic program of this college is the men's basketball. There are also soccer, softball, volleyball, swimming, cross-country, track and field, equestrian, basketball, sailing teams, and a rugby club.
