Originally founded in 2003 under the name of Kabul International Academy (KIA), the International School of Kabul provides a college-prep level U.S. (English speaking) curriculum to the child. The school is operated as a joint project of USAID, Oasis International Schools, and the Afghan government. Oasis and its partners operate schools around the world. ISK offers an American college preparatory curriculum resulting in an American diploma. Full accreditation was awarded through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in December 2008. All instruction is in English, and our teachers are degreed and highly qualified instructors. ELL classes are available to those who need additional English instruction beginning with 2nd grade through high school. The staff's first priority is caring and training our students academically and building strong character to become effective global citizens. Our school year begins in mid August and concludes in early June. We conduct classes from Saturday through Wednesday. Major Afghan and U.S holidays are observed. ISK is currently located in the Karte-i-Char area of Kabul and plans are in progress for the development of a new permanent campus. ISK, initially known as Kabul International Academy (KIA), began operations in 2003 with elementary classes for only 8 students. Enrollment for 2010-2011 has grown to over 300 students in grades K4-12. In May 2011, five classes of seniors will have received their High School diplomas from ISK and join other graduates currently pursuing university studies around the world. Also in May, alumni from ISK’s first graduating class (2007) will be graduating from college! ISK provides a positive, secure environment where students learn to live together and respect all cultures and religions. If you are looking for a family atmosphere with a commitment to academic excellence, then ISK may be the school for you.
