During the 20 plus years since our school was established adeep sense of commitment from our parent community and staff has developed into an educational community and place of learning that upholds Christian values and creates a supportive and nurturing environment for children to learn. Parent involvement in the school community is a consistent element throughout our education process and is encouraged. We are very grateful to have the involvement of parents who are willing to participate in their child’s education and in the life and community of the school. Our Vision Our vision is to inspire in every student the desire to learn to relate positively with each other; and to develop their unique gifts and strengths to benefit and serve others. Our role is to equip students with the skills to make a difference in their world. Fundamental to this are the values and principles that the Bible offers in relation to service and the value of others and our relationship to them; in short to love your neighbour as yourself and treat them accordingly. Our aim is to develop the understanding that the successful education of a child is a three-way relationship between teacher student and parents. The Bible clearly teaches that the responsibility of raising children is primarily that of the parents. We see our role as working with parents to educate their child/children to develop and nurture their individual gifts. Teaching and Learning A sincere commitment to pastoral care by the Beechboro Christian School teaching staff and the school community means the establishing of strong relationships with students and their families. From Kindergarten through to Year 6 staff work alongside each student exploring areas of strength and weakness. Literacy support is offered at our school to assist students who experience difficulties. Students in the program participate in a range of activities which promote their learning. Parent involvement in the school community is a consistent element in our education process. We value and appreciate the participation — whether it be helping in the library being involved in our learning programs or simply discussing your child’s progress. Our strong community spirit and partnership with parents equips students for life outside the school community. Our staff recognises that the understanding you have of your child assists them as they provide an education which values individuals in the context of the larger environment. Throughout every class students are encouraged to express their views confident that they are part of an education process which values a variety of expressions. Co-curricular Together with academic subjects and a variety of sports activities beechboro Christian School seeks to provide something extra. Our LOTE (Languages Other Than English) programme includes weekly Japanese lessons for students from Year 1 to 6 and optional after school Italian classes once a week for anyone in the school community who would like to learn. The teaching of LOTE has beenshown to assist students in the learning of English and enhances inter-cultural understandings. Teaching LOTE is considered to be important because in our increasingly global village students may look to horizons beyond their immediate communities. Students who go on to Swan Christian College or Ellenbrook Christian College may choose to continue language studies in Japanese or French. A strong music influence in our school allows students to explore other talents. The school has a specialist music teacher who takes classes from Kindergarten to Year 6 and instrumental tutors who offer instruction in flute Keyboard and guitar. The school has a junior choir and a senior choir who regularly perform within the school and the wider community. A unique aspect to the school’s cocurricularprogramme includes “Clubs”. These operate for an hour each week during terms 2 and 3 for students in Year 1-6. Examples of the different clubs include “cooking club” “chess club” “dance club” and “woodworking club” to name a few. The clubs are led by staff and volunteers who have a particular passion for their area of learning. The small group setting of “clubs” strengthens the formation of friendships between students of different year groups while they explore new areas of learning. This year playgroup is held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and parents are encouraged to come along as this is a perfect time to meet other parents and encourage child interaction in a relaxing friendly environment. School Structure and Governance Beechboro Christian School provides a Kindergarten to Year 6 education with a continuation program for students offered at Swan Christian College and Ellenbrook Christian College.
