We are part of the International House World Organisation (IHWO), the oldest and

In our centre the classrooms are custom built for language teaching and TESOL
training. They are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped with modern audio
visual equipment. Our students and trainees also have access to computers and
free WiFi throughout the centre and study rooms for self access. For our TESOL
trainees there are also photocopiers and other printing facilities for lesson
preparation and a reference library complete with all the relevant texts for
their development. In addition we provide a lounge area and kitchen facilities
for our students’ comfort and for TESOL trainees a large jobs noticeboard to
browse when pondering life beyond their courses.

accreditation English language teaching at International House Sydney is based on
Communicative Language Teaching methodology. The central principles that
surround this approach to language teaching are based around students being very
active and engaged in the classroom. Lessons are ‘student- centred’ which allows
them to participate fully and discover English with their teacher facilitating
this process. In order to be successful, students must be motivated through
encouragement, and by engaging our students we achieve very positive learning
outcomes.
On all of our English programs you will be working on improving your language
knowledge. This involves working on your vocabulary, grammar and functional
language, broadening your passive and active ability with the English language
system. In combination with this we work on also improving your skills in
language – speaking, listening, reading and writing. As a result, our English
programs will be comprehensive enabling you to better function in an English
speaking environment.
To deliver this learning we employ qualified and experienced English language
teachers many of whom also work at our centre as teacher trainers. Our centre is
modern and well-equipped with comfortable classroom spaces complete with
computers and other media.

upon their qualifications, level and range of experience, communication skills
and ability to support students and teacher trainees.
Teacher Trainers
As a minimum all International House Sydney teacher trainers are accredited by
Cambridge University as teacher trainers and hold the following: •University degree •TESOL certificate - Cambridge CELTA, Certificate IV in TESOL or Trinity
Certificate in TESOL •Post graduate professional qualifications - Cambridge DELTA, Trinity Diploma
TESOL, MEd (TESOL), MA (TESOL), MA (Applied Linguistics) •An average of 12 years teaching/training experience
Their qualifications are enhanced by their extensive work experience including
positions as English as a Foreign Language published authors, Cambridge
University assessors and examiners, Director of Studies and School Director.
Collectively, they have worked and lived in over 30 countries and are passionate
about sharing their knowledge with their students.
All trainers have experience in: •Teaching a range of English classes: General English, examination classes (IELTS,
TOEFL, TOEIC and Cambridge), Business English, English for Specific Purposes
(ESP) and Academic English (EAP) from beginner to advanced levels •Observation and assessment of teachers in the classroom and the provision of
