About Fahan School

The School is an independent day and boarding school for girls from Pre-Kinder to Year 12 with boys being welcome until Year 2. Fahan is non-denominational with a Christian ethos.

Outstanding Academic Results

Although Fahan is non-selective fahan students consistently perform above the State and National average in standardised literacy and numeracy tests. In recent years nearly 30% of Year 12 Fahan students have achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 95 or above placing them in the top 5% of Australian students. Of these Year 12 students<% had scores of 90 or above placing them in the top 10% of Australian students while over 60% achieved scores of 80 or above placing them in the top 20% of Australian students.In 2010 the Australian newspaper listed Fahan as one of the top 100 secondary schools in the Country.In 2011 100 % of our Year 12 girls qualified for university entrance while of these<% achieved ATAR scores in the top 10 %. This continues the Fahan tradition of excellence.The small non-selective nature of Fahan makes these results even more outstanding. The exceptional academic results achieved by Fahan girls gives them access to the best universities and colleges in the world. This academic record is the foundation of excellence upon which the School has built its reputation for offering leading education for girls in Tasmania for over 75 years.

Exciting Extracurricular Program

From great team and individual sports to performance opportunities and community service – there is always a lot happening beyond the classroom at Fahan School.We provide a rich and extensive extracurricular program for all of our students enhancing their life at school and broadening their opportunities. Extracurricular activities allow students to get out of the classroom and to experience things that are fresh enjoyable and beneficial to their overall learning.That over 90 percent of our students from Kindergarten to Year 12 participate in at least one extracurricular activity is testament to the offering at Fahan School. Your daughter can choose to take part in Sport music visual Arts debating public Speaking performing Arts student Leadership and Exchange Programs and Trips.Extracurricular opportunities supplement the core curriculum and contribute not only to Fahan’s proud academic tradition but also to the personal growth and development of each of our students.

Boarding and International Student

For students who need to live away from home to attend school fahan can provide a safe and stimulating environment within its Boarding House nateby. There are short term and full-time boarding options available for students in Years 5 to 12.Students in Years 5-10 live in Nateby astately residence from when the school first opened which offers inviting dormitory style accommodation and a friendly environment with home cooked meals. The Senior Boarding Residence caters for Year 11 and 12 girls with individual accommodation and the latest modern conveniences including wireless internet and reverse-cycle air-conditioning.Students living in the Boarding House come from around Tasmania mainland Australia and also from several overseas countries.During term domestic and international boarding students are offered the chance to take part in organised activities around Tasmania during weekends. International boarding students have the opportunity to stay with a host family during the term holidays if they are not returning home.

Pastoral Care Program

At Fahan we foster a culture of care and support. Our unique size means that special bonds are developed with both peers and teachers Helping every girl feel like a valued member of the Fahan community.The School operates a number of programs that are designed to create a safe and nurturing school environment.Fahan’s own Big Sister little Sister program has been in operation for several decades. The program is designed to facilitate positive student relationships and interaction across all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 12.In 2011 the Big Sister little Sister program amalgamated with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Better Buddies program. The Alannah and Madeline Foundation approached Fahan to become a Better Buddies school agreat honour as ordinarily schools are required to apply. The offer to join stemmed from Fahan’s existing buddy programs and also their award-winning work on an anti-cyberbullying campaign video which is now shown by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation in schools throughout Australia.In addition to these programs the day-to-day structure of life at Fahan is designed to ensure the wellbeing of all students. Everyone at Fahan School is charged with a responsibility of care not just our teaching staff and student leaders. This means that Fahan girls develop a sense of responsibility and respect for each other for their teachers their parents and families and in the wider community.

The School is spread across one sprawling 6.2-hectare campus in the attractive Hobart suburb of Sandy Bay – just a ten-minute drive from Hobart’s Central Business District.Situated on the banks of the River Derwent and hidden from the view of the main road the School’s blend of historic and award-winning modern buildings coupled with the outstanding gardens and grounds create an inspiring nurturing and secure environment where your daughter can study and make friends.The single campus advantage means that our youngest through to our oldest students learn together in one caring community.Getting to and from Fahan School is hassle free as the Sandy Bay area is well serviced by the Metro bus system and in addition to this fahan operates a unique daily door-to-door private bus service in and around the Hobart area to ensure that your daughter is able to get to and from Fahan School worry free.The Fahan bus service operates in the Eastern Shore Kingston/Blackmans Bay and Northern Suburbs areas and is run by dedicated bus drivers employed by the School.

Applications for scholarships are now open.

There are Academic general Excellence and Music Scholarships available as well as a number of Bursaries for those students who without assistance would not otherwise be able to attend Fahan School.

Scholarships examinations are held on Saturday 5 May and interstate students can organise to sit the exams remotely in consultation with the Enrolment’s Registrar. Applications close on Tuesday 1 May.

Enrolling at Fahan School
