Study at Flinders University Australia
Flinders is everything a modern university should be and we think you'll find it an exciting and progressive place to study. Respected for excellence in both teaching and research, it remains friendly and accessible and at times proudly unconventional. Combining traditional values with a flair for innovation, we offer courses that reflect the needs of today's students, whether their interests are in the arts, the sciences or business. At the same time, the amount we spend on research and experimental development is consistently among the highest in Australia on a per capita basis. We expect all our courses to be relevant to modern society and to the needs of those being taught, whatever their background. And we believe teaching and research should go hand in hand, which means our students work with academic staff members who are leaders in their fields. Teaching is given the highest priority, and a good staff-student ratio allows regular direct contact with academic staff. All teaching is assessed by students as part of our commitment to ensuring the quality of our activities. Flinders offers nearly 50 undergraduate Bachelor degrees, as well as other programs that can be taken as specialisations within these degrees. Postgraduate courses through to doctoral level are offered in all disciplines. [See Areas of study for more information.]
Flinders is situated just south of Adelaide's city centre in a safe, suburban location. Regular bus services run to the CBD, the nearby beaches and the Marion Shopping Centre the largest shopping mall in the southern hemisphere. Security guards are on duty 24 hours a day and an after-hours escort service is available. We have just one campus, so there is no need to travel across the city to attend lectures, and it is possible to live on the university grounds in either collegiate-style or self-contained
accommodation.
The campus is like a mini city, with shops, a post office, bank, pharmacy, hairdresser, book store, travel agent, laundromat, music listening room, religious centre, and Muslim prayer rooms, as well as traditional student services such as refectories and a sports centre. The refectories have just been remodelled to create an exciting cafe-style environment. Flinders has a student population in excess of 12500, including about 1200 international students from more than 50 countries. More than 40% of our students are studying part time or externally, and a third are aged over 30. We are a truly multicultural university, which actively promotes and celebrates cultural diversity. An on-campus Religious Centre incorporates Muslim prayer rooms. Interaction with overseas universities is encouraged at Flinders. We have ties with universities, colleges and research institutions around the world to provide opportunities for student and staff exchanges, as well as joint research and teaching programs.
We have formal links with some of the world's best universities, and
recently became one of the founding members of the International Network
of Universities, which brings together universities in Asia and Europe. Main campus Sturt Road, Bedford Park Adelaide, South Australia Postal address GPO Box 2100 Adelaide 5001 South Australia General information
