The university has five faculties: Business and Law Education and Arts Engineering and Built Environment Health Science and Information Technology We offer over 150 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including an MBA offered online, by distance learning and on-campus. International students have access to pre-degree programmes and to a state-of-the-art Language Centre. Language RequirementAssessment for admission to the University is based on your academic qualifications and English proficiency. International students must satisfy the University's English Language requirements. The University offers preparatory English language courses through the Language Centre for students requiring additional English language tuition. The Language CentreSince 1988, the University's Language Centre has offered English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) to applicants whose English proficiency does not meet University requirements. All of the Centre's courses are accredited by the National ELIOCS Accreditation Scheme, and the Centre is a member of the ELICOS Association and the University Language Centres of Australia. The Centre is also an official test centre for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). High quality services are available to all students through the Centre's excellent facilities, including purpose designed language, video and computer laboratories and private study and resource areas, which are available to students 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday. All overseas students are required to pay the full cost of their tuition, which ranges from A$12,000 to A$37,000 per annum for undergraduate programmes. These figures are indicative only. In addition, you will need to budget for approximately A$12,000 per annum to meet accommodation and living expenses. Living in Newcastle
A lively port city on a breathtaking
stretch of Australia's coastline, Newcastle boasts wonderful beaches, a low
cost of living, a very favourable climate, a casual lifestyle, and it's not
far from Sydney, the capital of the state of New South Wales.
Its population of 350,000 supports a
thriving business and commercial sector and an excellent network of leading
healthcare and educational facilities. Newcastle offers all the usual city
attractions, such as restaurants, cafes, parks and gardens, theatres, art
galleries, shopping centres and nightclubs.
Newcastle is also a popular tourist
destination. It has two airports with regular services to and from Sydney. It
is close to the main F3 Freeway to Sydney, a drive that takes about two hours
and the railway link to Sydney is excellent.
A few kilometres south of the city is
Australia's largest seaboard lake, Lake Macquarie, scene of many national
and international sailing events. Less than one hour's drive to the north is
the impressive harbour of Port Stephens, a popular centre for big game
fishing, sailing, surfing, and sailboarding. To the west are the
internationally famous wineries of the Hunter Valley, many of them more than a
century old. And to the south is the beauty and beaches of the Central Coast.

There is so much to do on campus to
keep your mind and body active! Join one of 33 sporting clubs - Archery to
N.U.D.E.S. (Newcastle University Dive and Exploration Society), water-skiing
to La Pena. You can swim in our 50 meter indoor heated pool, do aerobics,
martial arts, weights, personal training, use the squash or tennis pavilion,
take part in a recreational program such as belly dancing, golf or surfing.

On campus, the university offers
approximately 1,000 beds in three colleges and a motel standard
residence (Barahineban) located on the south-eastern corner of the Callaghan
campus. International House allocates up to 50% of its beds to international
students, while Edwards Hall and Evatt House provide up to 25% of their beds
to international students.
The university also recognises the
importance of secure, affordable and comfortable accommodation for those
students who would prefer to live off campus and operates an Accommodation
Service on both campuses that can provide a range of free and confidential
services to assist in your search.
