The school offers a day option to local residents. Students are prepared for IGCSE examinations and the International Baccalaureate Diploma (English or bilingual). Academic courses are taught in English and all students study German at the appropriate level. For Middle Years students whose native language is not English, intensive English instruction is provided. Mother-tongue maintenance in languages other than the main taught languages of English, German, French and Spanish is a priority. Arts projects, music master classes, and performing arts activities are supported by teachers, special visitors and through links to music academies in Salzburg. The school is centrally situated in the village, and students have immediate access to superb outdoor and cultural pursuits. The school operates in a beautiful lakefront park, in renovated historic buildings, and in newly built academic centres. Boarding houses are equipped to high standard and provide a secure and comfortable environment. The design of the school favours a strong sense of community and reflects a spirit of openness. It includes a state of the art Library and Media Centre, spaces for the performing arts, and modern science laboratories. Formal and informal activities are brought together in a seamless environment that acknowledges that learning occurs anyplace, at any time. Throughout the seasons our students walk to local sporting clubs, to music rehearsals, and to lunch at excellent village restaurants. At the doorstep are excellent facilities for all manner of physical and outdoors activities, including modern gymnasia, swimming pools, climbing walls, and riding stables. The local environment for a wide range of skiing and mountain activities and water sports is outstanding. Admission is selective and based on previous academic results and a willingness to contribute and extend one’s talents. The St. Gilgen International School is an IB World School, and accredited by the Austrian Ministry of Education. It is a Candidate School for Accreditation by the Council of International Schools. |
