Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board CanadaThe Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board was formed through amalgamation in 1998 to serve the three communities of Belleville, Kingston and Trenton in Ontario. Together our district includes 5 secondary schools, 37 elementary schools and 1 learning centre. [canada/photogallery/photo00023459/real.htm] Our programs strive for spiritual learning through a balance of Catholic philosophy and modern education. We teach our students to be responsible citizens and to set an example in the community. Small class sizes also allow the individual students to have the necessary attention to foster personal growth. We hope to enrich the lives of all of our students through this exchange of culture and traditions. International students will also gain a better understanding of Canadian culture while studying English. Kingston, Belleville and Trenton are modern cities characterized by distinctive features and unique histories. Kingston was the original capital of Upper and Lower Canada in the 1800's, while Belleville was first discovered by the explorer Samuel de Champlain over 350 years ago. The city of Trenton is home to CFB Trenton, one of Canada's Air Force Bases. Belleville and Trenton are located on the banks of the Bay of Quinte, while Kingston is at the headwaters of the St. Lawrence River, giving students access to the scenic Thousands Islands. The three cities are only a few hours drive from the nation's capital city, Ottawa, and the provincial capital, Toronto, which is one of the largest and most cosmopolitan of Canadian cities. Curriculum Overview The Algonquin and Lakeshore District School board offers a full range of academic programs from Grades 9 through 12. This curriculum leads to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The subjects available include French, English, geography, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, the arts and technology studies. We believe that all students studying with us should have a balance of mind, body and spirit. This is why religion courses are offered within our curriculum. English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are offered as well. They are included in the regular school program. Students will be assessed to help design a curriculum that will achieve their individual language goals. The summer orientation program includes introductions to the culture of Canada, the province of Ontario and the cities of Belleville, Kingston and Trenton. Activities and Facilities
