Bachelor Degrees, University
Transfer, Postgraduate, Career/Vocational, and English as a Second Language
(ESL). Credentials awarded from Capilano College are widely recognized
throughout Canada and credits are easily transferred to other schools.
Capilano's main campus is nestled in
a natural setting on the slopes of North Vancouver. The main campus is easily
accessible by car or bus, and is 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. The campus
has a naturally forested landscape and is located in a family-oriented
community. Most students live within a short distance to the campus. Many
students choose homestay for accommodation but there are also rental apartments
and suites available near the campus. Capilano College has comprehensive
support services including Orientation, Advising, Counseling, tutoring services,
and more. On campus there is an award-winning library and well-stocked
bookstore. The spacious and sunny cafeteria offers many varieties of food plus
is a great meeting place for students. The Sportsplex offers many recreational
opportunities for all students plus has intercollegiate sports teams. The city of Vancouver is the third
largest in Canada. Located on the southwestern coast of British Columbia, the
city is blessed with a mild climate and temperatures that rarely dip below
freezing. Bordered by snow-capped mountains on one side and the Pacific Ocean on
the other, Vancouver is known for its breathtaking scenery. Capilano is set in
an area, which offers a wide range of recreational opportunities, from mountain
biking and sailing to skiing and snowboarding at Grouse, Seymour, and Cypress
mountains. Vancouver will share the 2010 Winter Olympics with Whistler, which is
only a couple of hours drive away. Vancouver offers all of the amenities one
would expect to find in a city of almost two million people, including a broad
selection of restaurants, theaters, museums, and shopping. The city is also the
home of professional football and hockey teams. Type of Programs:
Bachelor Degrees
Capilano offers 4-year degrees in
Business Administration, Jazz Studies, Music Therapy, and Tourism Management.
The 2-year diplomas in Business Administration and Tourism Management ladder
into the 3rdand 4thyears of the degree.
Associate Degree and University
Transfer (UT) UT courses at Capilano offer a wide
variety of program options. Students can select a full program of study
equivalent to the first two years of university studies. These programs are
intended for students who plan to complete their degree at a university, for
example the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, or some
other fine Canadian university, or for those who wish to earn a two-year
Associate Degree in Arts or Science. An Associate Degree is awarded to students
who have completed 2 full years of study (60 credits) at the first and second
year university levels. Postgraduate Students with Bachelor degrees can
upgrade their employability with programs such as Environmental Science and
Management, the Art Institute, Latin America Management Program, and Asia
Pacific Management Program. Career/Vocational Programs Capilano offers a variety of
employment-oriented programs leading to certificates and diplomas. Some will
lead to degrees. Programs are constantly reviewed to ensure that students are
taught the latest techniques and skills required in today's workplace and
include Animation, Design, Art, Musical Theatre, Film, Tourism, and many more.
English as a Second Language
(ESL) The ESL program facilitates the
learning of English language skills with a focus on English for Academic
Purposes. There are 7 levels from Intermediate to College Preparation. Students
write a test for placement at the correct level. Small classes of around 23
students are taught by highly qualified and experienced faculty with Master
degrees and ESL teaching certification. Length of Programs: Bachelor degrees are 4 years.
Associate degrees or University Transfer are usually 2 years (followed by 2
years at a university). Most diplomas are 2 years.
Entry Requirements: The basic requirement for admission
to Capilano College is the completion of British Columbia high school or the
equivalent. If students are allowed to enter university in their home country
then they are usually eligible for admission. Applications must include an
application form, high school and post-secondary transcripts, an application fee
of $100CAD, plus proof of English proficiency, for example TOEFL 220 or IELTS
6.5. Once admitted, you must submit a deposit of $5000 CAD in order to register
for courses. Fees: All fees are deducted from the
deposit of $5000 CAD. Students are required to pay the balance of their fees
when they register. Tuition fees are $375 CAD per credit. Most courses are 3
credits or $1125/course. Five courses will cost $5625 CAD per 4-month semester.
Starting Dates:
Capilano College operates on a
semester system and there are 3 semesters per year: September, January, and May.

(4)TOEFL 220 or IELTS 6.5 (not required for ESL program) If the applicant is accepted, a
letter of admission is sent, and the applicant uses this letter to apply for a
visa to come to Canada. Once admitted a deposit of $5000 CAD is required.
