Lakehead University offers a Masters of Public Health degree with two distinct fields: Health Studies and Specialization in Nursing. In both fields, the student will focus on current issues in the science and/or service of public health, so they may gain experience through the opportunities in any of the fundamental disciplines that underlie public health. The program is primarily intended to prepare graduates who will emerge as skilled individuals, ready to meet complex public health challenges through education, research and community service.
The degree is designed to take into consideration the learner's needs including the unique opportunity to individualize their clinical courses to a variety of foci including clinical practice, administration, education and community health.
The MPH program was awarded Honourary Mention for an OPAs Award (Office for Partnerships for Advanced Skills, an Affiliate of the Council of Ontario Universities) Awards for Excellence in Teaching with Technology. All courses are offered through distance
learning via teleconferencing, videoconferencing and media streaming. This gives
you a greater degree of freedom in organizing
your learning activities to fit your lifestyle. This program can be completed on a
part-time or full-time basis using a variety of distance delivery
methods including online [web-based], interactive audio/video streaming,
and print- based resources.
Online
courses are delivered using a platform called WebCT.
It is secure and
stable and allows students to interact with their professor and fellow
students synchronously or asynchronously. It also allows students to
have access to their course content around the clock and receive any

"guest". Courses delivered in an online format require a
PC with Windows 98/me/NT/2000 or a Mac with OS 8.6 or 9.1; connection to
the Internet and a recent version of Netscape Navigator 4.7x (4.0 and
6.0 not supported) or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Computer
facilities are available on-campus for students too. High-speed
internet service such as DSL or Cable with the latest versions of Quicktime, Realplayer or Windows Media
are necessary to view the
audio/video streams.
