community college in British Columbia. We now serve over 2000 students each
year, including over 100 international students who come to Study Abroad.
The international students study ESL (English as a Second Language),
College Diploma and/or Certificate programs or University Transfer Courses.
The
International Education Department, is a multifaceted department which offers a
fulltime program in English Language Studies on the Castlegar Campus as well as
a number of short-term summer and winter English Programs. Services to
International Students include homestay, student visas, medical coverage,
advising, peer support, and free tutoring.

Peace Studies Selkirk College has two main campuses, in Castlegar and
Nelson. Castlegar and Nelson are small cities in the Kootenay region of British
Columbia, a popular area for those that Study Abroad. You will experience
friendly and safe small city life with modern conveniences, arts and culture,
affordable living costs, with world-class ski/snowboard areas, golf courses, and
hiking trails. This area is surrounded by the beauty of nature: the environment

is beautiful with modern facilities computer labs, gymnasium (including weight
room, squash, racquetball courts), library, cafeteria, bookshop are accessible
to all students.
Selkirk College, situated in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, has
provided 40 years of quality postsecondary education services in the beautiful
West Kootenay Boundary Region. With an average annual enrollment of 2, 400
students, the College has graduated approximately 30, 000 students since first
opening its doors in 1965. Selkirk offers certificates, diplomas, and associate
degrees in a wide array of academic, career, vocational, and technical programs.
Comprehensive English Language programs, including a certificate program in
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), are also available.
Excellent articulation agreements with universities and university colleges
provide a seamless transition into degree programs. The College embraces
technology, providing students with access to online learning and services. The
West Kootenay Boundary Region is located about halfway between Vancouver, on the
Pacific Coast, and the Rocky Mountains that border the province of Alberta. The
area enjoys a moderate four-season climate and is famous for its natural beauty.
The environment of forests, mountains, lakes, and rivers provides many
opportunities for recreation and adventure. Our small, friendly communities
welcome international students.
International Development
Since
1986, Selkirk College has welcomed international students from all over the
world. There are currently over 150 international students from more than ten
countries enrolled in a broad range of programs across the institution.
Customized study tours, offered primarily in the summer, are also very popular
with international schools.
