Suzhou Eton House International School

Suzhou Eton House International School is located in the New District area of Suzhou City. It is a joint venture between
Eton House Schools in Singapore (where they run six schools) and a Chinese partner. It was decided to start a new school
in Suzhou as there is a growing expatriate presence in the city and therefore an opportunity existed to start a new
school in a rapidly expanding sector. The school is for children aged two years old to 13 years old. It is planned to eventually expand into secondary education and already the school has a number of middle school students. Fifteen nationalities are represented at
present.

CURRICULUM
The school uses a combination of NSW (Australia), Singapore and British curriculum documents. The best of each are adopted and adjusted where necessary for our location in China. We are an IBPYP "candidate" school and teach English, Mathematics, IB Units of Inquiry (a cross-curricular approach to History, Science and Social Studies), Music, Health and Physical Education and Art. ESL (English as a Second Language)
lessons, Chinese, Japanese and German are also available.

STAFF
Most staff are from Australia or Singapore and are fully
registered and trained teachers, many with post graduate
qualifications. A full description can be seen on the website.

FACILITIES
The school has a well resourced library, science laboratory,
art room, cooking facilities, playground and sports field.
The older children each have a laptop and the classroom has
a wireless internet facility. A dining room provides morning
tea and lunch each day. Most children arrive by the school
bus service.

SCHOOL YEAR AND SCHOOL DAY
The school year commences on 1st September and ends in
mid-July. The school day starts with assembly at 8.45am and
ends at 3.30pm. Clubs are held after school on Tuesdays and
Thursdays

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The school is committed to inquiry based learning and teaching
children how to learn. There is an emphasis on skills
acquisition, as well as ensuring that all students achieve a
high standard in literacy and numeracy. All staff believe that
learning should be fun and that their task is to equip their
students with the skills to be life-long learners. Values are
regarded as very important and the students are encouraged to
be kind, honest, thoughtful, tolerant and respectful towards
one another and their parents and teachers.
