Utahloy International SchoolUtahloy International School, established in August
1997, is a private non-profit school catering for the educational needs
of expatriate children in Guangzhou, China. Students currently range in
age from 2 to 16 years. The school opened a middle school in August
1999.
The Utahloy International School is located inside
the boundaries of Golden Lake Estate and is 10 km north of the city
centre. The school provides supervised transport for its students,
and offers a pristine environment in a heavily industrialised city.
Recognizing the mobility of the international school
population, Utahloy International School has developed an
International Curriculum using the English National and other staged
outcomes curriculums up to grade 5. The Middle School is authorized
to offer the Middle Years Programme of the International
Baccalaureate.
Student progress at Utahloy International School is
monitored by Individual Profiles and Tracking Frameworks.
Standardised and systemic testing complement the extensive Records
of Achievement maintained by teachers.
Class sizes are small, with 20 set as a maximum.
Current teaching staff come from Canada, the UK, Australia, New
Zealand and the USA.
The full range of elementary school subjects is
taught at Utahloy International School along with daily lessons in
Putonghua. Early Childhood settings follow Early Childhood
Curriculums and teachers must be early childhood specialists. Local
teachers work alongside expatriate teachers.
Utahloy International School facilities include a
hall, AV room, library, design and technology room, art room, music
room, and a science laboratory, a local area network of computers,
and a playground with some permanently established playground
equipment, a grassed play area and basketball courts.
